I remember the 1972 event at Hockley Valley and I remember that course. It was SO hot that May day that after having a bit of trouble with control 5 and a lot of trouble with the heat I quit the course after control 6 and swam in a pond on the way back to the finish. That remains one of only two courses I have abandoned in some 50 years of orienteering.
